The Platinum Jubilee is supposed to be a time of celebration and the approaching collectively of communities.

However individuals residing on one avenue aptly named ‘Jubilee Highway’ have been left taking down their patriotic bunting over fears it's a hazard to massive autos.

Jeff Williams, who lives on the street in Poole, Dorset, strung up the flags to get into the spirit of celebrating the Queen’s 70-year reign.

However he was left baffled when a council officer knocked on his door to inform him the bunting is a hazard to massive autos due to its peak.

He was instructed a criticism was bade to Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council by another person, which Jeff, 75, mentioned was ‘laughable’.

The pensioner hung the 100ft size of bunting 14ft off the bottom and was instructed it didn't conform to laws and that it wanted to be 2ft larger at 16ft.

If the bunting stays as it's, Jeff may very well be fined £200 for breaching the Freeway Act of 1980.

Jeff and all his neighbours should now embark on the perilous activity of elevating the bunting 2ft larger.

They are going to all try to repair 8ft lengthy wood canes to the homes within the hope the bunting will probably be raised to the suitable peak.

Jeff has been left bemused by the entire affair, saying: ‘My subsequent e mail will probably be to the Queen to get her on the case.

‘The irony is we're on Jubilee Highway. It's only proper that we rejoice the Queen’s jubilee.

‘We are able to’t get the bunting any larger. The breaking pressure is about half an oz. if one thing hit it, a two-year-old might break it. I can’t see any hazard it might pose.

‘There’s no good cause why it must be taken down.

‘The most important autos which come down our street are the bin lorries they usually clear it fairly comfortably.’

Councillor Beverley Dunlop, portfolio holder for tradition and vibrant locations on the native BCP Council, mentioned: ‘We’re proud to say now we have greater than 300 jubilee avenue events happening this weekend in celebration of the Queen’s 70-year reign – it’s nice seeing the group come collectively.

‘Though we’ve issued broad steerage round residents placing up their very own bunting, that is for respectable security causes. We welcome avenue events and will not be stopping any occasions happening.

‘Residents in Jubilee Highway weren't suggested to take down their bunting. We suggested that it was too low, which may very well be hazardous to massive autos travelling beneath.’
