Katherine McPhee and David Foster revealed as couple under masks in Masked Singer US

Did you guess correctly? (Picture: Fox)

The Masked Singer US has revealed the identities of two more stars, and it’s only Katherine McPhee and David Foster!

The pair were unmasked as Banana Split in the Group B Finale, during the 12th episode of season 6.

Singer Katherine, 37, and producer David, 72, said they had ‘the best time’ competing on the show, and producers actually ‘undersold’ to them how enjoyable the experience would be, saying they have ‘no regrets.’

‘We didn’t have any summer plans,’ Katherine said.

‘I was five months postpartum, and Covid was raging. We just thought, what are we going to do, sit at home all summer long and just look at each other? So we did that, we looked at each other for two or three weeks straight on the show. And just had so much fun. And I was very upset that I lost that we didn’t take the whole thing home.’

Referring to her stint on American Idol in 2006, where she finished as a runner-up to Taylor Hicks, Katherine joked: ‘I don’t want to always come up as a runner up. You know, I’ve already done that before. I wanted to win!’

Judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg and Nicole Scherzinger all guessed Banana Split’s identity correctly, while Robin Thicke went with Ryan Tedder and Leona Lewis.

Katherine admitted she was ‘kind of shocked that people figured it out as quickly as they did,’ as she seemed to underestimate her own popularity.

‘I just thought, I’m not that popular of a recording artist, so people won’t know my voice that well. But maybe from my Smash years, my voice has become a little bit more recognisable.’

For one of her performances, Katherine sang Singing in the Rain by Arthur Freed, and for her duet sang Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing by Stevie Wonder, with Blurred Lines singer Robin.

Banana Split’s previous performances also included A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman, Michael Bublé’s Cry Me a River and Poker Face by Lady Gaga.

David produced all of Katherine’s performances and also had holes in the hands of his costume, allowing him to play piano.

The husband and wife refuse to reveal the song they had in mind for the finale, because they ‘don’t want to give it to somebody else,’ but claim it was ‘a showstopper.’

Songwriter Katherine also said the costume was difficult to wear as the headpiece was obviously ‘very heavy.’

‘The heaviness of it was the biggest struggle for me, because it weighed down on me and made my breathing a little bit more shallow, which obviously affects the singing.

‘David, they catered to his specific needs, he’s got a major claustrophobia issue. He won’t take elevators or anything. So his actual banana head was very easy to take off.’

With Banana Split now unmasked and eliminated, two finalists remain in the show.

Group A winner Bull and Group B victor Queen of Hearts will go head-to-head next week in the season finale.

Previous unmaskings from this season have included Johnny Rotten and Honey Boo Boo.

The panel will continue to fight for the Golden Ear trophy, which Jenny has won the last two seasons for scoring the most points for her correct guesses.

This season also has a new feature – the Take It Off buzzer, which allows the judges to prematurely demand a celebrity remove their mask, if they’re certain they know who it is.

The Masked Singer US airs on Wednesdays on Fox in the US.
