Walk The Line kicked off tonight with a performance from hit drag vocal group Queenz, who managed to win over viewers and judge Gary Barlow.
Simon Cowell’s new ITV reality series launched on Sunday with Maya Jama hosting and Gary on the judging panel alongside Dawn French, Craig David and Alesha Dixon.
Queenz were second to perform during the episode and rocked out with a buzzy performance, complete with stunning harmonies and a rap verse, which mostly received the thumbs up from the judges.
Alesha felt the rapping segment wasn’t needed but Gary overall leaned into the performance, commenting: ‘It’s not always going to be about talent, it’s going to be about, look at the music diversity we’ve achieved here.’
Queenz said: ‘Tonight if we made life just that little bit less serious then we’ve done our job.’
It’s safe to say they certainly did as one viewer reacted to their TV debut via Twitter: ‘The Queens were fab and fun loved that!’
Another declared: ‘Obsessed with queenz already!’
A longtime Queenz fan wrote supportively: ‘Okay I’ve been obsessed with the Queenz for ages so SO excited to see them on tv tonight!’
‘Oh I bloody love the Queenz,’ one viewer tweeted.
Another said: ‘Oh my word. Loving #Queenz I’d go to see them.’
Without seeing the other contestants, a new fan admitted: ‘Yas omg I want them to win already.’
Unfortunately for the Queenz, they crashed out of the competition alongside AJ and Brendan.
Walk The Line will see soloists, duos, bands, and choirs perform for the nation in front of the panel of judges, with a chance to win a prize of £500,000.
The top two performers of the evening will face a decision to either ‘cash out’ and take a prize, or ‘walk the line’ and play on.
The longer the performers stay in the contest, the bigger the prize pot, and each night the reigning champion will be offered an even higher cashout prize.
It will air each night this week until the grand finale on Friday.
Walk The Line airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV.
