Man arrested for bringing guns to US Capitol and Supreme Court

A person was arrested outdoors the US Capitol carrying a number of unregistered weapons and ammo in a ‘suspicious’ van, the US Capitol Police stated.

Tony H Payne was arrested on Wednesday and charged carrying an unregistered firearm, unregistered ammunition, and carrying a pistol and not using a license.

Payne, an 80-year-old man from Tunnel Hill, Georgia, was parked illegally on the 100 block of East Capitol Road. The block is located between the Capitol constructing and the Supreme Courtroom.

It's not clear what the police canine detected. A Capitol Police hazardous supplies workforce searched the van and cleared it after officers observed a pipe and containers inside.

Through the hours-long search, police blocked site visitors from a number of streets within the surrounding space and evacuated the Library of Congress throughout the road.

When he was questioned by authorities, Payne stated that he was right here to ship paperwork to the Supreme Courtroom and admitted he was carrying firearms.

Officers recovered two handguns and a shotgun from the van.

‘Weapons are banned from Capitol Grounds, but dozens of persons are arrested annually for violating the regulation,’ the Capitol police said.

Police detained two different folks, a person and a girl, who had been in Payne’s van on the time, however neither had been arrested or charged.

The lady travelling with Payne recognized herself as Marilyn Seay, WUSA reported. She informed the native station that the opposite particular person within the van was Payne’s grandson.

Capitol police have been on excessive alert after a number of incidents with weapons have occurred close to the seat of the US authorities.

In August, a person shot himself after crashing his automobile right into a barricade close to the Capitol constructing.

Final September, a person was arrested after bringing a number of knives, a machete, and a bayonet close to the headquarters of the Democratic Nationwide Conference.
