Just in time for St. Patrick’s day, new research shows the luckiest names for men and women in Canada.

The most popular Canadian name for a woman that indicates luck is Penny.

There are 18,410 Canadians with this name. 

Penny signifies good luck, according to legend, because the two sides of a coin can depict the battle between good and evil.

Finding a penny (or any coin) heads up is said to be good luck.

The second name on the lucky list for women is Iris, which — though a flower name — is from the Greek word meaning rainbow. Rainbows are a sign of good luck and hope, and there’s always the chance of a pot of gold at the end!

There are 7,136 women named Iris in Canada.

In third place for women is the name Jade, with 4,119 people so named.

Jade is regarded as lucky because in some Asian cultures, jade stoneprotects those who wear it as jewelry.

Popular men’s names that signify luck include Felix, with 6,040 Canadian men bearing that monicker. Felix is from the Latin, and it means happy or fortunate — Felicity would the female equivalent.

Second most popular lucky male name is Edmund, which is found in Old English ballads and means prosperity and protector. There are 3,791 Canadian men with this name.

Third on this list is Ganesh, a lucky name and a diminutive a diminutive of Ganesha, the Hindu god of wisdom.
