Schools in Peel region threatened with shooting in post on social media

A threat to five Peel region schools is being investigated by police.

Several schools in Peel region have been threatened with shootings in a post on social media.

The threat, which was a screenshot of what appears to be a Snapchat story, was shared on Reddit and has since been deleted. The screenshot of the text stated that on March 10, a person would be attending Louise Arbor Secondary School, Holy Name of Mary Catholic Secondary School, Notre Dame Secondary School, St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School and Ascension of Our Lord Secondary School with the intention of shooting at each school.

In an email to the Star, the Peel District School Board said, “We are aware of the social media post and we’re taking it very seriously.”

Peel police said that they are also aware of the threat and that it’s under investigation.

Adding that “our school staff, the school board’s Security staff, the school board’s School Support staff, and local police are all working together to ensure the safety of our students and our school staff. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority.”

In an email from St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School to parents also posted on the Reddit thread, the principal said the school is aware of the threat and that Peel police are investigating.
