Kenner Rams advance to bronze medal game at OFSAA A boys basketball championship

The Kenner Rams have advanced to Wednesday night’s bronze medal game at the OFSAA A boys high school basketball championships in Timmins.

No. 6 seed Kenner dropped at 65-49 decision to No. 2 seed E.S.C. E.I. Lajeunesse from Windsor earlier on Wednesday.

Isaac Chandra led the Rams in soring with 17 points, Isaac Griffin had 13 and Keegan Drumm had 12.

They will be up against No. 1 seed Woodstock Collegiate in the 6 p.m. bronze medal game after Woodstock was upset in the other semifinal by the No. 4 seed George S. Henry Academy 72-55. George S. Henry faces Lajeunesse for the gold.

The Cinderella story Rams, who won their first COSSA A title since 1995 last month, went unbeaten through the quarterfinals, improving their record for the season to 21-2.

They shocked No. 3 seed College Notre Dame from Sudbury with a come-from-behind 63-60 win Tuesday night in the quarter final. Matt Kathiravelu led the scoring with 34 points, Griffin had 11 and Drumm 8.

The Rams earlier defeated Woodland CHS 86-74 in their second game on Tuesday morning. Leading scorers for Kenner were Kathiravelu with 28 points, Chandra with 22 and Ashwin Bakirathan 12.

On Monday, the sixth seed Rams beat No. 16 Smithville Christian High 67-34 in their opening game. The Rams came out flying and took command of the game early outscoring their opponent 25-4 in the second quarter.

Leading scorers for the Rams were Chandra with 30, Kathiravelu with 18 and Griffin with 10.
