Facebook was down for thousands of users, many in the US, during the day on Friday.
There were 1,838 reports of of problems with Facebook at 11.54am ET, according to DownDetector, which tracks online outages. By 12pm, the number of reported issues had grown to 2,382.
Most of the issues, 62%, were reported on Facebook’s website, while 22% were on the app and 19% were around posting on the platform.
Users in New York appeared to experience the most problems with Facebook. Other US cities that showed issues included Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Seattle and Tampa, as well as Washington, DC.
In DownDetector comments, many commenters said they could not post.
‘Cannot post anything. I can see stuff but that’s it,’ one commenter wrote.
Another said: ‘Unable to delete my own comments on my own post. Both on mobile and desktop, returns an “Error: Unable to complete query” dialog or “There was an error deleting your comment. Please try again later” dialog. Desktop temporarily deletes comment but then it reappears within seconds.’
Others commented that they could not send photos on Messenger, another platform owned by Meta.
It is just the latest outage to plague Meta platforms.
On November 3, Meta’s Facebook, Instagram and Messenger went down for several hours worldwide.
‘Getting really tired of the Facebook platform being unreliable,’ a DownDetector commenter wrote on Friday afternoon. ‘Has anybody found a viable alternative? I am ready to go as soon as one exists.’
