A school has been closed after a man’s body was found in the grounds.

The tragic discovery was made at Bedford Academy in Kingsbrook at around 7.50am on Monday.

Children were told to stay at home as police launched an investigation.

The man has not yet been formally identified and the death is currently being treated as ‘unexplained’.

The Chief Executive Officer of Heart Academies Trust, David Morris said: ‘Following a discovery of an unknown adult body on the Bedford Academy School site in Mile Road early this morning, the decision has been taken to close the school for today.’

Bedfordshire police said: ‘We are currently at the scene of an unexplained death in Mile Road, Bedford.
