A man’s body was found in a park’s lake after people out enjoying a Boxing Day walk reported the tragic discovery.
Paramedics and an air ambulance were scrambled to Walton Hall Park in Liverpool on Sunday morning after passers-by spotted a body in the water.
The man, who has not yet been identified, was pulled from the lake and given CPR but was declared dead at the scene a short while later.
Merseyside Police said an investigation has been opened, with officers trawling through CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses in the surrounding area.
A spokesperson said: ‘Emergency services were contacted at just before 9am following reports that the body of a male had been discovered in the lake.
‘The male was removed and CPR commenced but he was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
‘Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and notify his next of kin.’
Social media users, including some living close by the park, spoke of their sadness at the news, the Liverpool Echo reported.
Tracy Perry said: ‘Heard the helicopter and wondered what had happened. So sad.’ Ann Mannion added: ‘How very sad thoughts with this man’s family and friends.’
Lynne Morgan wrote: ‘So sad thinking of this poor man’s family and friends.’ And Paula Nuttall posted: ‘Sad, right by our house. Thinking of all his family.’
