Three men have died and another has been seriously injured following a crash involving a car and lorry in Co Tyrone.
The crash happened at around 1.50am on Monday at the Omagh road area of Garvaghy.
Three men, all aged in their 20s, died at the scene.
A fourth, also in his 20s, is being treated in hospital after sustaining serious injuries.
The Omagh road is closed between the Curr Road and the Greenmount Road, with motorists advised to take alternative routes.
Local SDLP MLA Daniel McCrossan called it ‘heartbreaking news’, adding: ‘My thoughts are with the families and friends of these young victims whose lives have been cut short in such tragic circumstances.’
Stephen Donnelly, a local Alliance Party councillor, said the incident was ‘devastating’.
He added: ‘Three young lives lost and another seriously injured. Our thoughts as a community will be with all the families impacted.’
A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson said: ‘Inquires are continuing and anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage or any other information, should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 240 27/12/21.’
It comes after three people, including a five-year-old girl, were injured in a Boxing Day crash in Fife, Scotland.
They were in a silver Vauxhall Corsa which was involved in a crash with a blue Audi A3 on the A985 near Limekilns at around 3.50pm on Sunday.
Emergency services attended and found the man driving the Corsa was seriously injured and the female front seat passenger had sustained minor injuries.
A five-year-old girl in the rear of the car sustained minor injuries, while a two-year-old girl next to her was not injured.
The man driving the Audi was not injured. The road was closed for around seven hours for a collision investigation and vehicles recovery.
Witnesses and anyone with dash-cam footage from around the time of the crash is also asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1877 of Sunday December 26, 2021.
