2021 is ending on an astrological high note: a Gemini Full Moon, a Venus Retrograde and a winter solstice all within days of each other.

This means that anything lingering in your life, that’s not good for you, can be released and left behind in 2021, as you turn a new, positive page into 2022.

Let it happen, let yourself release the old in order to welcome in the new.

The Gemini Full Moon is about letting go of old toxicities and self-limiting attitudes or behaviours, ready for a new adventure.

During the winter solstice the Earth is at its darkest, and in this shade we are drawn more to our inner thoughts and feelings, with time and peace to ruminate and think about what we want to be different in our lives by the time we emerge into spring.

The Venus Retrograde starts December 19 and ends January 29, and it overlayers the season with a need to practice self-care, be super kind to yourself, and do what’s best for your overall wellbeing. It urges you to stop bad habits, curtail negative thinking, and live a healthy life.

Put together, these events are like an Astro therapist guiding you towards the things you should move on from. Do future you some big favours as the year draws to a close.

Let the tarot guide you towards what you should release and let go of, for your best self, before the year’s end.

Aries

March 21 to April 20

The Knight of Wands

Sometimes your impetuous, impatient (dare I say childish?) inner self gets the upper hand and you do rash, unwise stuff which you live to regret and rue the day.

The Knight of Wands sure is fun on the night but may have some doubts and sorrow the morning after.

You are resolving to think twice, to look before you leap, and force yourself to pause and consider consequences before you bite off more than you can chew again.

Taurus

April 21 to May 21

The Queen of Swords

The Queen of Swords is a ruthless, direct, dynamic woman, eager to do everything herself, for herself. She is fiercely independent and sharp-tongued.

She could represent an actual person in your life who perhaps belongs more to your past than future, and you should let the relationship settle back to its natural level.

She could represent a side of you that is perhaps too independent. Sometimes you don’t ask for help or advice when you really should. It’s not a negative to seek guidance or support. Do it more often.

Gemini

Knight of Coins

: Defensiveness is a bit of a trait of yours because you don’t like people to know what you’re truly thinking.

You talk a lot but much of it is just you almost testing things out, speaking of whatever is running through your mind. When it comes to being pinned down or to making a commitment or taking a side, you don’t like it.

The Knight of Coins shows this trait sometimes blocks your progress or isolates you. It can create trust problems. Resolve to let this thirst for secrecy about your thoughts go, be more open with those you trust – they want to hear what you really think.

Cancer

June 22 to July 23

Nine of Swords

Stop bottling things up, Cancer, and keeping so much of your pain or anxiety a secret. Others can help you. Even just airing your concerns will make most of them disappear into thin air.

The Nine of Swords urges you to open up and truly share your deepest fears with those you trust – even a journal if you can’t face speaking.

When we keep fear secret, it grows and twists us into its shape. We have to exorcise this heavyweight emotion by talking it out.

Speak up. Trust others. Share your worries.

Leo

Ten of Cups

You’re an adorable character and you love to be loved. Maybe too much sometimes? Maybe, Leo. You can be such a people pleaser that you lose sight of what you really think or want.

The performance can be more tangible than the reality, and that leaves you in a shaky position, not feeling grounded or secure in your own skin.

Resolve to stop the people pleasing in 2022. Be yourself – you’re already good enough.

Virgo

August 24 to September 23

Two of Wands

For a little while you have felt yourself drifting, not really feeling as in control of your life’s trajectory as you’d like to be. It’s been easier to go with the flow than to make decisions you’re not sure about, or to force an issue.

Well, 2022 marks a turning point. It’s time to let the ‘go with the flow’ go, for a while at least, and face those decisions you’ve put off.

Get control back. Feel in charge of your destiny. You’ll feel so much better.

Libra

September 24 to October 23

The Moon

The Moon is a card of mystery and illusion, secrets and deceit, the things that lie hidden but drive our lives all the same.

This December, look to the undercurrents in your life, the things you keep secret, the thoughts you don’t share, the unspoken tensions or truths that influence you, and resolve to get clarity, illumination, and closure on as much as you can.

Find the truth, speak your mind, journal everything. Cleanse yourself of what lies beneath, and feel lighter and brighter.

Scorpio

Six of Cups

Sometimes you feel preoccupied with the past, with people or activities or roles or places you once held huge affection for but have lost touch with.

Scorpio, this month decide what you are going to rekindle, and what you are going to release, and act upon it. Don’t get trapped in a loop of overthinking ‘what ifs’, or of seeing the past with rose-tinted glasses that prevent you from moving on.

Get closure, open the door or close the door.

The Six of Cups says that a visit from the ‘Ghost of Christmas Past’ is coming… use it to your advantage.

Sagittarius

November 23 to December 21

The High Priestess

The High Priestess would suggest you’ve become more insular, inward looking, and even isolated this year, and that’s not really like you because you’re a social, outgoing person normally.

The pandemic has made you close up a bit. Resolve to open up more and make 2022 a more externally-focused, outward-looking, interactive year. Get out of your own head, ask for others’ opinions, see what’s going on in their life and how they’re feeling.

Come back to the world – we have missed you.

Capricorn

The Emperor

Control is a major theme in your life.

Dare I suggest that you can be, sometimes, a bit of a control freak? It comes from a good place, but it impacts on your relationships, your stress levels, and your dangerously high standards of perfectionism.

The Emperor asks you to turn this trait down a notch. Resolve to push out of your comfort zone of control, and let things happen, let others lead, let life flow in its own way at its own pace.

You will feel more relaxed.

Aquarius

Five of Coins

You are typically a very forward-facing person, you don’t dwell on stuff, you get over things fast and move on.

However, the Five of Coins would hint that there is something that dogs your thoughts and feelings; an emotional echo from the past that surges sometimes, and brings you down.

It’s time to heal fully from this, process your feelings, identify the root cause and let it start to die down for good.

Aim to look at this loss or grief or sadness objectively and process it mentally. Peace of mind awaits.

Pisces

Live in the moment (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Ten of Coins

Live in the moment, enjoy today, savour each hour, and focus your gaze on what you’ve got.

Sometimes you fixate on an ideal future that always lies somewhere over the rainbow, and this makes you focus on what you lack in the present, instead of the gifts and advantages under your nose.

Instead of hoping and wishing for a perfect utopia, resolve to start where you are, use what you already have, and do what you can. You are wealthy in life riches.
