Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will miss his side’s trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday after testing positive for Covid-19.
The German – an outspoken advocate of vaccinations – has tested positive on the eve of his side’s trip to the capital.
‘Jürgen Klopp will miss Liverpool’s Premier League meeting with Chelsea on Sunday after returning a suspected positive COVID-19 test result,’ a statement on Liverpool’s website read.
‘The Reds manager, who reported mild symptoms ahead of the fixture, is now isolating.
‘Assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders will therefore lead the team for the 4.30pm GMT kick-off at Stamford Bridge.
‘Testing of the entire first-team set-up has revealed no further positive cases within the playing squad in addition to the three confirmed by Klopp on Friday.
‘Three backroom staff members have returned suspected positive results, however.’
The Reds have struggled with Covid-19 in recent weeks, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Curtis Jones.
On Friday, Klopp revealed that members of his backroom staff had tested positive.
‘We have three new COVID cases in the team and a few more in the staff,’ said Klopp.
‘So it’s not so cool at the moment.
‘I’m not able to say who has been affected as we have to have the whole processes with proper PCR tests.
‘But you will see the day after tomorrow on the team sheet. It’s really clear who is affected or infected.’
