Kate Garraway shared a clip of her and her children ringing in the New Year on Instagram, as they worried the noise of fireworks could scare Derek Draper.
The presenter, 54, took to Instagram to share a video of the fireworks display her neighbours had put on from her window.
In it, she and her daughter Darcey, 15, and son William, 12, can be heard shouting excitedly about it being midnight as colourful fireworks illuminated the sky.
Kate could be heard saying: ’Woah! This is unbelievable!’, before William interjects: ‘Dad’s probably getting scared.’
She reassured him that Derek, 54, who has been cared for at home since leaving hospital a year after being admitted with coronavirus at the start of the pandemic, would be ok.
Kate responded: ‘Well go and check on him, don’t worry, You did tell him fireworks were going to happen.’
She added: ‘I have to say, the rest of North London has done brilliantly but full marks have to go to Lisa and Simon, our neighbours. That was unbelievable! That was so cool.’
Kate also took to her caption to wish her followers the best for 2022, writing: ‘#happynewyear everyone – let’s make it a good one!!! Here’s to health and joy to you in 2022.’
The year will no doubt be starting happier than ever as Kate was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours for her services to broadcasting, journalism and charity.
She also received high praise for her hard-hitting documentary Finding Derek, in which she charted her husband’s battle with the after-effects of the virus.
Derek is one of the worst-affected cases to have survived coronavirus, but has been left with a series of health issues as a result, and requires round-the-clock care.
Kate also recently revealed that communication is an issue but is sure that he understands what is happening around him.
