Man runs one of the UK’s smallest cafes from his 3ft by 6ft Bristol garage

Rob Savage began changing his 3ft by 6ft storage right into a tiny cafe throughout lockdown.

Now he sells truffles, coffees and cups of tea from the house – making it one of many UK’s smallest cafes.

The 51-year-old opened the venue, at his dwelling in Redfield, Bristol, with the intention of bringing his local people collectively throughout the pandemic. 

In whole, it took Rob greater than a 12 months to construct – one thing that was significantly difficult with materials shortages.

He explains: ‘I made it in response to a requirement that grew to become obvious throughout lockdown the place principally there was nothing round.

‘I realised that really there was one thing missing within the space for the local people.

‘We got here up with this concept of constructing a small takeaway espresso and cake place for the neighbourhood.’

The cafe, named ‘3ft 6’ after its dimensions, formally opened earlier this 12 months and runs from 10am-3pm at weekends.

And enterprise is booming – a lot so, clients come and luxuriate in their takeaway goodies on the offered seating outdoors his terraced dwelling.

Rob continues: ‘It’s very a lot about being a neighbourhood cafe.

‘I made it in response to a requirement that grew to become obvious throughout lockdown the place principally there was nothing round.

‘I realised that really there was one thing missing within the space for the local people.

‘We got here up with this concept of constructing a small takeaway espresso and cake place for the neighbourhood.’

Whereas the cafe is on the smaller facet, with it being a ‘bit like tetris’ behind the counter, Rob says he makes it work and that it’s been a stunning addition to the native space.

He provides: ‘I’ve been right here for almost 20 years and I’ve seen a large change in folks caring.

‘There’s an actual sense of group, an actual sense of neighbourhood – and hopefully this provides to it.’
