Plane snaps in half after sliding off runway during landing

Video footage reveals the second a cargo jet slid off the runway and snapped in half whereas engulfed in smoke.

The DHL cargo aircraft was touchdown at San Jose’s worldwide airport in Costa Rica yesterday when the incident occurred.

The airport was shut as a precaution however no crew have been injured because of the crash.

Hector Chaves, director of the Costa Rica Fireplace Division, defined how upon touchdown the plane skidded, turned and broke in two, exposing its cargo.

‘Models mobilised to take away the pilot and co-pilot,’ he stated.

‘Then they utilized foam to stop a spill and now they're engaged on an earthen dike to keep away from any gasoline from reaching the drainage system.’

The Boeing 757 had initially taken off from Juan Santamaria Airport simply west of the capital to fly to Guatemala Metropolis, however determined to return after detecting a failure within the hydraulic system.

DHL spokesperson Daniel McGrath stated on the time the corporate was working with airport employees to maneuver the aircraft so flights may resume.

He added an investigation had been launched to find out the reason for the incident.

Mr McGrath additional stated each pilots have been unhurt, however one was present process a medical examine as a precaution.

Luis Miranda, deputy director of civil aviation for Costa Rica, stated the aircraft had solely travelled round 35 miles from the airport when it requested permission to show again.

He stated the jet was carrying round two-and-a-half hours’ price of gasoline and solely the pilot and co-pilot have been on board. It's not but clear what was within the cargo.

Airport employees stated the crash would maintain the airport closed till no less than 6pm, with some incoming flights diverted to Daniel Oduber Worldwide Airport in Liberia, which is about 125 miles north west of San Jose.

George Parker, who lives only a few hundred yards from the crash scene on the former United States Air Pressure base, stated: ‘I noticed the pilot come down in a close-by subject because the aircraft smashed right into a block of latest construct flats.

‘Luckily nobody has but moved into them.’
