On the morning of the incident, the 25-year-old was stated to have immediately picked up a kitchen knife, walked into his granddad’s bed room and ‘brutally’ knifed him a number of occasions within the head.

Prosecutor Louis Mably QC informed jurors: ‘He was attacked and killed as he lay helpless in mattress, in his bed room on the primary flooring of the home.

‘He had been repeatedly stabbed and slashed with a knife within the face, and particularly within the neck, which had successfully been minimize open.

‘It was a brutal assault, plainly carried out with the intention of killing him.’

The youthful man instantly informed his grandmother what he had performed and doesn't deny killing the older man, the prosecutor added.

Mr Mably stated the defendant’s case was that he was responsible solely of manslaughter on grounds of diminished duty, and that jurors must weigh up his psychological state on the time.
