Human remains found in river were in water for ‘significant’ period

Human stays found in Shropshire are believed to have been within the River Severn for a ‘vital’ interval, police say.

Emergency companies had been alerted to the grisly discover between Shrewsbury and Ironbridge by a member of the general public at round 9.15pm on Saturday evening.

Police and the fireplace service helped recuperate the stays from the village of Cressage – and specialists later confirmed that they had been human.

The loss of life is being handled as unexplained and the person is but to be recognized.

West Mercia Police defined in an announcement: ‘It's thought they (the stays) have been within the water for a major period of time.

‘The loss of life is at present being handled as unexplained.

‘An investigation has been launched and all traces of inquiry are being explored.’

Detective Chief Inspector John Weaver added: ‘We're within the very early levels of this investigation and inquiries are ongoing.

‘Our precedence at this stage is to establish the deceased.

‘The stays are being forensically examined and the outcomes will decide the subsequent steps in our investigation.

‘This might be a prolonged course of however we'll replace the general public in the end.’

Officers are anticipated to remain on the scene over the approaching days as searches of the instant space proceed.
