More airport chaos as flights diverted when plane gets ‘stuck’ on runway

Flights needed to be diverted and delayed right now after a Ryanair flight landed ‘closely’ after which acquired ‘caught’ on a runway.

The flight from Faro in Portugal is believed to have suffered a touchdown gear malfunction after touchdown at Leeds Bradford Airport this morning.

Firefighters surrounded the Ryanair 737 flight after it landed at 8.45am.

One passenger tweeted: ‘A little bit of drama on our touchdown at Leeds Bradford Airport this morning.

‘A really heavy touchdown adopted by a really abrupt cease.

‘Unable to tow the airplane again to the terminal so moving into buses on the runway.’

One other social media consumer claimed a tyre had blown out.

It led to delays on the airport, with an inbound Jet2 flight from Gerona diverted to Manchester Airport as a result of short-term closure of the runway.

One other inbound, this time from Mahon, was diverted to East Midlands and a flight from Palma has gone to Manchester.

A number of flights outbound have been additionally delayed, together with a Ryanair flight to Faro, a Jet2 flight to Paris and a Flybe airplane to Belfast Metropolis.

Leeds Bradford Airport has confirmed that firefighters have been despatched to the runway.

The LBA spokesman stated: ‘Our on-site hearth operations attended the runway to help an inbound Ryanair flight experiencing difficulties upon touchdown.

‘Passenger security is our largest precedence and our staff acted promptly to handle the incident.

‘As a part of this we took the choice to divert 4 flights to close by airports whereas we assisted the flight. All passengers disembarked safely, and operations have returned to regular.’
