Rafael Nadal wins 22nd Grand Slam title by beating Casper Ruud in French Open final

Rafael Nadal cruised to a record-extending 14th French Open title by beating Casper Ruud in straight units [6-3,6-3, 6-0] in Paris this afternoon.

The 36-year-old recorded his 112th win at Roland Garros to place him two away from Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer on 22 Grand Slam wins.

Ruud, a first-time finalist, was damaged in his opening service sport and regardless of breaking again, Nadal eased to a 6-3 victory within the first set.

The 23-year-old beat Marin Cilic within the semi-finals to change into the primary Norwegian to function in a singles closing at a Slam and he appeared nervous at instances, with Nadal exploiting his lack of ultimate expertise within the early levels.

With Nadal sensing blood after a complete first set, the Spaniard sought to blow Ruud away within the early levels of the second and gave himself three break factors within the first sport.

However the Norwegian confirmed good psychological resilience to struggle again by holding his serve and saving the break factors.

Nadal’s failure to transform these break factors clearly affected his subsequent service sport, with the Spaniard sensing a misplaced alternative. Whether or not it was a psychological lapse or an indication of bodily fatigue, Nadal misplaced his service sport to like and gave Ruud a break together with his third double fault of the match.

Ruud was understandably buoyed at 3-1 up and on serve however his failure to transform allowed Nadal again into the set, with the Spaniard breaking again instantly after which holding his serve to stage.

That failure to carry serve clearly affected Ruud and he gave away management of the match, with Nadal successful 5 video games in a row to win the second set 6-3.

The third and closing set was probably the most simple of the three, with Nadal wrapping up the win with a bagel after breaking Ruud thrice.
