Rescue pooch 'Mr Happy' claims top spot in World's Ugliest Dog competition

A 17-year-old rescue pooch has crushed off stiff competitors to be named the World’s Ugliest Canine.

Mr Comfortable Face, a Chinese language Crested canine, struggled to indicate a lot emotion upon claiming the crown and $1500 money prize however his proprietor, Jeneda Benally was thrilled.

Wild Thang, a fluffy canine belonging to Anne Lewis took second place whereas Scotch Haley’s canine Monkey, a Blue Issue Brussels Griffon scooped third.

The World’s Ugliest Canine contest, which has been operating for nearly 50 years, promotes adopting animals over shopping for them and ‘celebrates the imperfections that make all canines particular and distinctive’.

It made a triumphant return to Petalum, California yesterday after a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic.

Jeneda adopted Mr Comfortable Face from a shelter in Arizona after he was rescued from the home of somebody affected by hoarding.

Describing the second she first set eyes on Mr Comfortable Face in his competitors entry, Jeneda wrote: ‘Once I first met him, he was the happiest creature that I had ever met.

‘He hobbled as much as me and selected me. I vowed that day, he could be so liked that he would by no means bear in mind how terrible his earlier life had been.’

When Jeneda and her household adopted Mr Comfortable Face in August 2021 they have been warned his varied illnesses meant he could not survive past three months.

However 10 months on Mr Comfortable Face is flourishing.

‘Love, kindness and mommy kisses have helped him defy the anticipated brief life that all of us anticipated him to have with our household,’ Jeneda added.

Mr Comfortable Face’s objectives are reportedly to have ‘an extended tongue than Gene Simmons and a extra dashing snarl than Billy Idol’.

He's understood to dislike climbing stairs and never being the centre of consideration.

His hobbies embody ‘sleeping, loud night breathing, woofing in his sleep and making odd sounds when he's blissful’.
