An off-duty police officer was sentenced to 87 months in jail for collaborating within the January 6 Capitol riot.
Former police Sgt Thomas Robertson of Rocky Mount, Virginia, was sentenced on Thursday afternoon to seven years and three months in jail for his position within the riot.
In April, a jury discovered Robertson responsible of six prices associated to obstructing Congress. These included interfering with a police officer and getting into a restricted space with a harmful weapon.
His sentence is similar as that of Man Reffitt, who was convicted for 5 felonies together with bringing a firearm to Capitol grounds.
Prosecutors argued that Robertson was ready for violence on the riot and used his legislation enforcement coaching to disrupt Capitol police attempting to manage the group.
‘The defendant is, by all accounts, happy with his conduct on Jan. 6,’ stated Assistant US Lawyer Elizabeth Aloi.
Robertson travelled to Washington, DC the morning of January 6 with one other off-duty Rocky Mount police officer, Jacob Fracker.
The pair reportedly did a ‘victory lap’ contained in the Capitol constructing after gaining entry, then posed collectively for a selfie.
Fracker pleaded responsible to conspiracy in March and has been cooperating with authorities. He's scheduled to be sentenced subsequent Tuesday.
Fracker testified towards Robertson, and prosecutors have requested the decide for a lenient sentence with no jail time as a result of his cooperation.
Robertson and Fracker had been each fired by Rocky Mount after the Capitol riot.
