Cruise passenger who fell overboard filmed waving for help by rescue helicopter

Footage has revealed the second a person frantically waves to rescue crews after falling overboard a cruise ship on Thanksgiving Day.

The 28-year-old passenger was reported lacking from the Carnival Valor after plunging into the Gulf of Mexico.

He may be seen desperately trying to draw the eye of emergency staff whereas making an attempt to remain afloat within the huge expanse of water.

The person had been stranded for greater than 24 hours when he was hoisted to security by the US Coastguard in what has been hailed as a ‘Thanksgiving miracle’.

He disappeared from the cruise ship round 2.30pm native time on Wednesday earlier than being rescued round 20 miles off Southern Cross within the US state of Louisiana on Thursday round 8.30pm.

The person was noticed by the crew of a bulk provider known as Crinis earlier than plane crews have been dispatched to assist.

Lieutenant Seth Gross, mission coordinator of the US Coast Guard Sector New Orleans search and rescue crew, mentioned: ‘We're past grateful that this ended with a constructive end result.

‘It took a complete crew effort from Coast Guard watchstanders, response crews, and our skilled maritime companions working within the Gulf of Mexico to find the lacking particular person and get him to security.

‘If not for the alert crew aboard the motor vessel Crinis, this case might have had a way more tough ending.’

Lt Gross mentioned the rescue mission was ‘not like something I’ve been a part of.’
