The search for swimwear just got a little bit cuter — and more eco-conscious — thanks to a new Canadian brand called Patti Jane Swim. The company offers bikini designs inspired by the colours and prints of the ’60s and ’70s, each one made using “recycled materials.” We caught up with founder Paige Exell to learn more.

Q: For those who aren’t familiar, what is Patti Jane Swim?

A: Patti Jane Swim is a Canadian, female-founded swimwear brand committed to offering sustainable and approachable swimwear options to wearers that want to add a little personality to their “sunny-day” wardrobes. Inspired by the effortlessly cool and laidback vibes of a bygone era, Patti Jane Swim takes notes from the groovy prints and colourful stylings of the ’60s and ’70s, featuring a variety of flattering cuts that move with you. The first collection, Patti’s House, features three prints made with premium-quality, ultra-soft recycled fabric that keeps comfort at the forefront so you can sink back into your lounge chair, mellow out by the pool and let us take you back to easier days.

Q: What makes it unique?

A: As a consumer, I always struggled to find swimwear that was flattering and sexy without being too revealing and offered premium quality without the pricetag. Patti Jane Swim offers wearers affordable and eco-friendly options without compromising style or quality. In a market that favours minimalism, Patti Jane Swim is also a rebellious and refreshing take on swimwear that encourages you to stand out from the crowd.

Q: Who is the target customer?

A: With flattering cuts made from ultra-soft, body-hugging fabric, Patti Jane Swim is designed for anyone who prioritizes comfort, whether you’re letting loose at a beach party or lounging by the pool. No one is too old for a good time and a groovy outfit.

Q: Where are the swimsuits designed/made?

A: Patti Jane Swim is designed in Toronto and created with the help of a production partner who was carefully chosen in order to guarantee high-quality standards, quality workmanship, respectful working conditions, and premium fabrics. Created with the Earth in mind, our first collection, Patti’s House, was made from recycled materials such as post-consumer waste and discarded plastic water bottles to create a super soft, high-quality fabric that will make you feel right at home.

Q: What is the price range for the swimsuits?

A: Our first collection offers two adjustable top styles, two high-waist bottom styles, and one versatile cover-up in three unique prints. Each piece ranges from $65 to $79 per piece.

Q: And where can people check them out?

A: You can check us out on Instagram and TikTok @pattijaneswim. Shop the collection at pattijaneswim.com.
