Google blocks news content, Feb. 22
The Canadian government should take action against Google for refusing to comply with the upcoming Bill C-18, which mandates that internet companies pay for other people’s content.
If Google is unwilling to follow the rule of law, then it should be kicked out of Canada altogether, rather than allowing it to profit while cheating Canadians of their full services.
Clearly Google’s double standard of complying with Australian law but defying Canadian law is unfair and an act of aggression towards Canadians.
Consequently the Canadian government should enforce Bill C-18 which makes Google update their exploitative internet business model and pay for the content they use here, and for its profits in Canada.
Otherwise we are not a sovereign country that values its rule of law and willing to defend the rights of its citizens from unfair treatment.
