Indian Wells picks
Women's draw
Peyton Stearns vs. Bianca Andreescu: March 11
Best Bet: Stearns +1.5 sets (-118)
Analysis: It’s hard to expect anything to come easy for Andreescu these days.
The 2019 Indian Wells Open champion is entering the tournament on a three-match losing streak, failing to win a set in any of her last three contests.
Stearns is certainly a cut below her recent competition, but the young American tennis player is demonstrating good form.
Stearns is 19-3 in 2023, sporting an impressive 13-1 record on the hard court. Although she’s facing lesser opponents, she did recently win the ITF W60 Rome event.
Stearns has won at least one set in 20 of her last 22 matches.
Leylah Fernandez vs. Emma Navarro: March 11
Best Bet: Under 19.5 games (+102)
Fernandez isn’t dominating the opposition, either, but in her defence, her latest loss was a straight-sets defeat to No. 1-ranked Iga Swiatek.
Fernandez has won three of her last five, however, and has done well in matches where she’s the superior player. That’ll be the case when facing Navarro, who has largely played in W25 and W60 tournaments this year.
Since qualifying for the final at ITF W60 Vero Beach, Navarro hasn’t found much success. She has lost three of her last five outings, failing to win a set in all of her defeats.
Fernandez has gone under this number in two of her last three wins, while Navarro has fallen short of it in two of her last three appearances.

Indian Wells best bets: Men's draw
Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. Pedro Martinez: March 11
Best Bet: Auger-Aliassime under 12.5 games won (-129)
Analysis: Typically betting an under is a fade of some sort, but not in this case.
We’re taking Auger-Aliassime under 12.5 games won because we doubt he’ll have to go to a tiebreaker or a third set against Martinez. Simply put, this is a mismatch of massive proportions.
Martinez rarely faces an opponent of Auger-Aliassime’s calibre. When he does, it doesn’t end well. The last time Martinez faced a top-15 ATP player was Hubert Hurkacz at the Australian Open, and he lost the match in straight sets.
Auger-Aliassime hasn’t made many deep tournament runs lately, but two of his last three (Qatar, Rotterdam) were cut short by Daniil Medvedev. We’re not holding that against him as he enters this match.
Ugo Humbert vs. Denis Shapovalov: March 10, 4:35 p.m.
Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+135)
Analysis: These two competitors have met four times in the past. Although Shapovalov (3-1) holds a fairly decisive series lead, their matches are almost always close.
Both Humbert and Shapovalov have won one set in two of their four head-to-head meetings. The only exceptions were a straight-sets win by the Frenchman at the Italian Open and their most recent contest at the Madrid Open, a two-set victory for the Canadian.
It’s also noteworthy that Humbert’s only win against Shapovalov came on their only battle on hard court in 2020. With their upcoming match also happening on the hard court, we’re likely staring down another close showdown.
