Cable 14 to host Hamilton Centre byelection debate

New Democrat Sarah Jama, Liberal Deirdre Pike, Progressive Conservative Pete Wiesner and Green Lucia Iannantuono will vie for the Hamilton Centre provincial seat vacated by Mayor Andrea Horwath.

Cable 14 will host a televised candidates’ debate for the upcoming Hamilton Centre byelection on Tuesday night.

The debate comes weeks after the province announced the byelection slated for March 16, which has 10 candidates vying for the provincial seat left vacant by Mayor Andrea Horwath.

Cable 14 invited all 10 candidates to participate in the debate, however, only the four main parties were invited to take part in the live debate.

The other six candidates were given the opportunity to record a three-minute statement, which will be played live during the debate.

For the four main parties, the format of the debate will allow each of them to give an opening statement and then they will take pre-recorded, streeter-style questions from voters. The candidates will then be able to ask each other questions.
