Hamilton fire department estimates $300,000 in damages from a blaze that caused “considerable damage” to the second storey of an east Mountain home Saturday.
Crews responded to the scene of a structure fire on Driftwood Place, near the intersection of Mud Street West and Paramount Drive, at 9:17 a.m. on March 4, a spokesperson for the fire department said in an email.
“Crews were met by smoke and flame emanating from second storey windows,” the spokesperson said.
Three occupants had “self-evacuated” prior to crews’ arrival and were taken to hospital by paramedics as a precaution, fire said. No injuries were reported.
The fire was quickly knocked down. Crews performed search and rescue to ensure there was no one else inside.
As of 12:15 p.m. Saturday, the cause of the blaze had not been determined, but it is “not considered suspicious,” fire said.
