Is there anything worse than wearing tight pants in the summer?
When it’s hot and sticky outside, all we want is loose, flowing silhouettes and pieces that are easy to just throw on and go.
Enter wide-leg pants. Especially in breezy materials and lightweight fabrics, they’re chic and comfortable without ever looking sloppy.
Here are five pairs you’ll want to slip on this summer:
Suit up
A lightweight suit may sound like an oxymoron, but gone are the days when your only summer workwear options were black, navy or grey wool. Or, come to think of it, impractical cream. Case in point: This rose-hued, rose-motif jacquard set, which comes complete with high-rise trousers. Team them with pumps for office days or sandals for a more casual cool look.

Minty fresh
What’s better than a pair of pants you can wear all summer? A cheap and cheerful price tag to match. These high-rise cropped pants come in four shades, including versatile navy, cream and dusty blue, but our favourite is definitely this light, minty green, which is happiness in a nutshell. Finish with white sneakers and a white tee for the ultimate, carefree summer ensemble.

Calling all linen lovers
The Sleep Shirt has long been our go-to for stylish loungewear that also doubles as stylish daywear — hey, we’re looking at enjoying a very lazy summer — and we were excited to see the brand launch its first-ever pair of wide-leg pants. The “Palazzo Pant” comes in sand and black linen, as well as a comfy Tencel material, and with their handy pockets, super wide leg and pull-on, elasticated waist, they’re practical yet look great, whether you wear them for midweek lunches or weekend errands.

Denim redux
If you can’t imagine a week, let alone a season, without denim, consider this “Lasso” pair by American brand B Sides. Each pair is one-of-a-kind and made from vintage Levi’s 501s — a style that, incidentally, celebrates its 100th birthday this year — with an exaggerated, curved outside seam that gives the style a neat, wide-leg shape. They’re definitely way more pricey than brand new 501s, but we love their slouchy fit and the fact that they’re uniquely up-cycled to extend the life of a classic.

Crinkle cut
Forget heavyweight canvas and thick materials: in summer, tissue-thin fabrics like on these crinkle pants are ideal for every day. Light and flattering, pair them with the coordinating button-up shirt for the most sophisticated take on pyjama dressing you’ll ever experience.
