Canada’s Fairy Tale Economy Article, Feb. 25
David Olive’s perspective added to information I’ve been noticing lately about Canada’s economy.
I’ve learned something about Canada’s place in the world, which might explain why Canada’s economy seems to be performing well. In college history classes, they teach that crossroads cities — and crossroads countries — usually have above average prosperity. It makes sense. Crossroads cities are trading centres, and communications hubs.
Switzerland is a cultural crossroads and financial exchange centre for Europe.
In the same way, Canada is becoming the cultural crossroads and financial heart of the Northern Hemisphere. Although there are political tensions between Canada and China, for example, trade between those two countries is breaking all records.
Canada is succeeding economically because Canada is the little guy in the middle of four giant superpowers. This offers opportunities, as a cultural communications and economic crossroads, for America, Europe, Russia and Asia. Canada is a little country, in the centre of the world’s four biggest economies. As they say in real estate … it’s all about location.
Now the communications age has arrived, it looks like Canada’s turn for prosperity has arrived.
